Master light manipulation through practical photography workshops

Lighting shapes the story

We teach photographers how to see light, shape it, and use it deliberately. Streamgrid exists to help you control one of the most powerful elements in visual storytelling.

Built by photographers who needed better training

Streamgrid started when three working photographers realized something was missing. Light manipulation wasn't taught as a practical skill. It was either overly technical or reduced to simple presets.

We built workshops where students learn by doing. Every exercise focuses on one lighting technique you can apply immediately. No abstract theory, no passive watching.

Our instructors work professionally. They shoot commercially, editorially, and artistically. They understand deadlines, client expectations, and budget constraints. When they teach, they draw from real projects and actual challenges.

Students from 38 countries have completed our programs. They range from hobbyists to full-time professionals refining specific skills. What unites them is the desire to control light intentionally rather than react to it.

What drives our teaching approach

Hands-on mastery

Every workshop centers on practical exercises. You manipulate light in controlled scenarios before applying techniques to your own projects.

Equipment flexibility

We teach principles that work with any gear. Whether you have studio strobes or window light, the concepts remain consistent.

Collaborative learning

Small cohorts allow direct instructor feedback. Peer review sessions help you see how others solve similar lighting challenges.

Led by working photographers

Our instructors balance teaching with active commercial and artistic practices. They bring current industry experience directly into workshops.

How we structure practical learning

1

Diagnostic assessment

You submit current work showing how you currently handle light. We identify specific gaps to address during the workshop.

2

Controlled exercises

Each module introduces one lighting technique through structured practice. You work with the same subject under different lighting conditions.

3

Immediate application

After mastering the controlled scenario, you apply the technique to your own project. Instructors provide targeted feedback on execution.

4

Peer critique sessions

Small groups review each other's lighting choices. You learn to articulate why specific approaches work or fail in different contexts.
